USMT

USMT i.e User State Migration Tool is a command line utility used to migrate profile, other user data to another system.  You can use USMT to migrate profile data to computer system running Windows 7 from computers running Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Migrating data from Windows 7 to Vista can be also performed using USMT.

With USMT 4.0 allows you can capture user accounts, user files, operating system and application settings. ACLs (Access Control Lists) are also migrated when data is migrated from source computer to destination computer hence permissions remain intact on the destination system.

With USMT you can migrate below data

Mapped network drives
Local Printers
Device drivers
Passwords
Shared folder permissions
ICS settings (Internet Connection Sharing)

There are 4 files used during migration by USMT. They are MigApp.xml, MigUser.xml, MigDocs.xml and Config.xml. Let us understand them in detail :
