Features of Windows 8
1. The Start menu : I have seen many of them criticizing about the new START menu, but I found it very interesting and something out of the box. Remember the old mobile without touch screen facility, but after the launch of touch phones everyone accepted it. The same goes for the Start button.
You will not find the traditional start button at the bottom left but it is hidden in the same area and you will have to move the mouse over that area and bring the Start option on the screen. The Start menu can be customized to bring all your favourite porgram on one screen with Tile view. You will also find "All Apps" at the bottom of the screen to display all your applications but in a Tiled manner.
2. Sync your settings: If you sign into Windows 8 with a Microsoft account—or what’s still called a Windows Live ID—the system will automatically sync virtually all possible settings for you; only your passwords will not sync automatically.
Settings sync is configured through the new PC Settings interface, a Metro-style experience that is accessible from the Settings pane (WINKEY + I, then “Change PC Settings). (You can also access this interface from the Charms bar by choosing Settings first.) Once in PC Settings, navigate to Sync Your Settings.
If you didn’t sign in with a Microsoft account, you can still enable this functionality. Domain-joined users will need to connect their account to a Microsoft account, a process I describe in an upcoming tip. Those with old-fashioned local accounts will need to convert their account to a Microsoft account. I’ll be writing about that process in an upcoming tip as well.
3. Windows Defender : Microsoft has launched an enhanced version of Windows Defender which consists of an antivirus program along with anti malware hence protecting your system with various threats. Microsoft though has also provided option to disable the software and install other antivirus products which are available like Mcafee, Norton etc.
TIP: It’s
bad practice to run more than one anti malware engine at the same time. This will cause a conflict and may cause severe performance
issues.
4. Simpler shutdown
5. Built-in screenshots
6. Keyboard shortcuts
7. Snap your apps
8. File History
9. ISO support
10. Reinstall Windows
